On August 4-5, 2017, Middletown hosted it’s 10th Annual Pickleball Tournament. There were 150 participants from 7 states.
We had free massages by Roman, of Roman Massage and Fitness http://www.romanmassagefitness.com/. On Friday, Stanley Volkens provided pizza and applesauce for the players. On Saturday we had a hot dog lunch sponsored by Middletown Tube Works. Tammy Brewer was on hand to sell her home produced honey.
This year there was a raffle table. Paddles, bags, tee shirts and visors were donated from some of the biggest names in Pickleball. Raffle tickets were sold also for jewelry and restaurant gift certificates. Also, lots of goodies for the scorekeepers and volunteers.
A heavy downpour may have dampened the courts, but it couldn’t stop the fun. While the men were drying the courts, the pickleball ladies—and a couple brave men—got the line dancing going. Lead by Connie Peavley with music provided by Tony Brewer.
The tournament cannot run smoothly without help from all our members. Special thanks to all those who came both mornings at 6:30 am to set up and those who stayed late to put things away. Always grateful for all the tables, canopies and long hours.
As usual, our players came through with donations of fruit, snacks and cookies as well as ice, plates, forks and napkins. Many thanks to Connie Peavley for organizing all the volunteers. Thanks also to Jennifer Moon and Allison Schneidler for handling the raffle table. Big thank you to Todd Jungling for holding score keeping clinics. http://www.pickleballmax.com/
This tournament also cannot run without the head scorekeepers, David and Paula Leighton. Thank you.
The law group of Combs, Schaefer, Ball, and Little of Middletown, provided us a cake honoring our 10th anniversary. The cake was made at Central Pastry of Middletown.
A special thank you to Stanley and Marcia Volkens, without whom Middletown Pickleball would not exist.
